A Stroll By The Seaside

Some recollections of cuteness from last week, to offset the grossness of this morning.

I came home from work, and got out of the car to find Wendy's Mum downstairs with Kaylee and Zoe. Wendy was following on behind and they were going to go for a walk around the block. At 7:30 pm it's still quite light out and great for a walk, with cool sea breezes breaking up the heat of the day.

So I told them to go on ahead while I took some shopping upstairs and I'd catch up to them.

This was not as easy as it sounded, as they were out of sight by the time I went after them and Wendy wasn't hearing her phone ring. But I assumed they were heading towards the ocean and so I went that way. Before long I could hear Kaylee's squeals from a block away.

I found them all at a grassy reserve on the coast, Kaylee running around like a mad thing and Wendy's Mum trying to stay within stop-her-running-off-a-cliff distance. I took her over near the fence, pointing out a freighter of some sort on the horizon. Kaylee's very into boats and trains.

We walked along to a large grassy area that's next to where Wendy and I had our wedding ceremony. Kaylee chased some seagulls, and some dogs chased Kaylee. She's very vocal and brave, ordering that the "wo-wo's" should "come HERE NOW!" But when they actually do run over, she hides behind my leg. Even small dogs must look pretty big to her at this stage.

We headed for home, the uphill climb always less fun than the initial downhill meander. Kaylee started running with her arms outstretched, crying "I'm a seagull! I'm a seagull!" Though she's pronouncing it 'segul' at the moment. She started flapping her arms and was perplexed that she couldn't fly. She looked at me frustrated and said "I can't reach it!"

Two years old and she wants to be Supergirl already. ; )
